Beebe, Charles William
(1877-1962). American scientist, explorer and author. For many years he was
curator of ornithology at the New York Zoölogical Society. ALS, 1p, 8"x5", New
York, 1931 May 5. Fine. Crayon docket in top right corner. He writes, "I am
sorry but if I do not use articles like the one you mention in final book form I
would not have sufficient funds to live or carry on any expeditions..."
Plus a greeting card, 7"x8", n.p., n.d. Very good. It shows a photograph
(halftone) of the "Spiral Galaxy of Andromeda," below which is imprinted "Dr.
and Mrs. William Beebe Wish you a Happy New Year." The photo has some surface
wrinkling. On the verso William Beebe has added a holograph note and signed it

Byrd, Richard E.
(1888-1957). He was an American aviator and polar explorer, the first to fly
over the North Pole. Byrd was a rear admiral, U.S.N. He headed five expeditions
to Antarctica. On his fourth expedition in 1946-47 he headed the largest U.S.
Navy expedition to that time. Cacheted cover signed by Byrd and three other
officers on "Operation Highjump," the name of this expedition. Printed on the
envelope is "MAILED AT LITTLE AMERICA." There is a 3¢ Navy stamp and a cds "U.S.S.
MOUNT OLYMPUS FEB 3 P.M. 1947." $200.00

Duryea, Charles E.
(1861-1938). Duryea built the first
gasoline-driven motorcar in the United States. Signature clipped from a check,

Greely, Augustus Washington
(1844-1935). He was an American army officer and Arctic Explorer. Greely was the
chief signal officer of the army and attained the rank of major general. In 1935
he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. ALS, 1p, 6"x5", n.p., 1916 Dec.
26. Fine. He writes to Miss A.S. Peck,

(1822-1909). An author and clergyman. He was a
prolific writer and most noted for his novel, The Man Without a Country.

verso with archival paper. Plus original stamped envelope with holograph
address. He is unable to give a lecture in Flushing, NY. 2 pieces. $135.00

Halleck, Fitz-Greene
(1790-1867). He was an American poet, satirist and editor. With Joseph Rodman
Drake he wrote the "Quaker Papers." For years he was under the employ of
John Jacob Astor and a trustee of the Astor library. Eight ALsS, most 1p, mostly
6"x4" (some larger), Guilford, CT (5), New York (1), n.p. (2), 1858-62 (2 n.d.)
Fine (4), very good (3), poor (1 - badly faded). Plus one S, mounted. Fine. They
are all of routine content, social letters and responding to autograph

Hedin, Sven Anders
(1865-1952). He was a Swedish explorer who carried out expeditions to Tibet,
Turkistan, Mongolia, the Himalayas, and Central Asia. He gathered valuable
geographic, historic and archeological data which greatly contributed to
Western culture and was the author of many books based on his explorations and
travel. Presented here are seven ALsS including a photograph.
1. ALS, 1p, 8"x5", Berlin, 1897 Nov. 8. Fine. Some right marginal
wear not affecting the text. He plans to lecture in London and embark on a
journey.

writes of an American contract.

(1860-1932). He was an English biologist and prolific writer. He taught in the

top and bottom margins and irregular patchy age-toning. He gives references to
periodicals which are devoted to book reviews. $80.00
