10773.    Barry, Sir Charles (1795-1860), An English architect who designed many important buildings in London and elsewhere. He is perhaps most noted for designing Westminster Palace (1840-60) and the British Houses of Parliament in London. ALS, 1p, Foley Place, 1840 March 27. Very good. Small break repaired on verso with paper and small mounting traces on verso. He indicates that he has forwarded a “certificate for a payment to you of £500 on account of the Painting…which you may expect top receive in the course of the next week.”   $110.00

 

 

 

10555.  Baruch, Bernard M. (1870-1965). U.S. financier and advisor to the government and to several Presi­dents. During World War I he was chairman of the War Indus­tries Board and an advisor on defense. During World War II he was an advisor to James F. Byrnes, Director of the Office of War Mobilization. As U.S. Representative to the U.N. Atomic Energy Commission he helped formulate a plan for international control of atomic energy. TLS, 1p, 10"x8", Office of War Mobilization, Washing­ton, 1944 Jan. 11. Fine. He thanks his correspondent for a gift and "for your kind remarks regarding my activities..."        $110.00

 

10776.   Cooper, Peter (1791-1883). An American inventor and manufacturer, most noted for his dealings in the iron business and designing and building the first locomotive in America, Tom Thumb. In 1876 he was the Greenback Party’s candidate for President. He built Cooper Union in New York according to his own plans to provide free education to the working classes. Bold  S on 2”x4” slip of paper, mounted to another piece. There is slight age-toning and faint center fold line.  $65.00

10573.   Cooper, Peter  (1791-1883).  Bold 4” signature on 2½”x5” slip of paper. .Fine.  $65.00

 

107103.   Rockefeller, John D., Jr. (1874-1960). Philanthropist and son of John D. Rockefeller. World War II TLS, 1p, 10”x8”, Rockefeller Plaza, NY, 1945 March 15. Fine. He thanks his correspondent for a cribbage board and adds, “sending the board to one of my sons who is now on the Island of Leyte [Philippines] . . .” It comes with the original stamped envelope, the sender’s retained draft of his letter to Rockefeller and a printed pamphlet by J.
